About Zoe Grey
Zoe Grey is an artist from lutruwita/Tasmania, Australia. Working in the field of painting, as well as drawing, collage and ceramics, her work explores notions of home, connection to place and the experience of landscape. She grew up on the remote Northwest coast of lutruwita/Tasmania, in the raw and rugged environment of Marrawah, on Peeraper country. Her experience of that unique landscape and an ongoing, evolving connection to that place, informs a large part of her practice. Her work is also driven by engaging with new and unfamiliar places, exploring how connections are made through immersive experiences, holding painting as a tool to nurture and unpack relationships to place.
Zoe graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Tasmania, School of Arts and Media in 2018. With numerous solo exhibitions nationally, her work is held in private collections around the world and in the public collection of the Devonport Regional Gallery. In 2024 Zoe was the Winner of the prestigious Hadley’s Art Prize, alongside winning the Packing Room Prize. She has been a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize, Womens Art Prize Tasmania and TIDAL. She has undertaken artist residencies in Norway, Svalbard, Finland and Kind Island. She is currently based in nipaluna/Hobart, working out of the Artist Run Initiative, Good Grief Studios. Zoe is represented by Despard Gallery, Hobart and James Makin Gallery, Melbourne.
